Detective Games: Work the Somatry Case File
The detective’s desk is where separate accounts become a question that can be answered. Somatry puts the work in reading, comparison and a report that can be checked against the file.

The detective works through records
Somatry is a detective game for iOS and Android set in fictional Coldmere County. The investigator receives an old case, reads the surviving material and decides what it establishes. There is no need to perform a chase to make a document useful. The tension comes from a statement that does not quite fit, a time that belongs to the wrong event or an ordinary record that changes the meaning of a conversation.
The Bureau gives the work its frame. An opening brief states the premise and explains why the file has returned. It is a starting point, not a solution. Captain Ada Voss sends files into the investigation, while the wider cast supplies the county's institutional context. Those names and roles belong to the fiction. The website makes no claim that its case work is real investigative advice or a reconstruction of actual events.
Read a source before assigning it a role
A detective's first useful question is often narrow: what does this record actually say? A message records words sent, a transcript records an account, and a transaction records a particular entry. The source may establish one part of a sequence while saying little about another. Reading closely means keeping those limits attached to the detail, especially when a theory makes a broader interpretation attractive.
Consider an invented alibi: someone says a building was locked at nine. That statement needs to be compared with a record of access, and the access record may need a separate record connecting a key to a person. The website demo makes that chain small enough to inspect. In a full case, the same habit keeps a character's confidence from being mistaken for independent evidence of where that character was.
Flag what may need to be compared
Press and hold a detail in the game to flag it. A flag is a working selection, useful for preserving a timestamp, wording or contradiction that may matter later. It is not a verdict on the speaker. The strongest working set can include an early claim and the later record that puts it in doubt. Their disagreement is easier to explain when both can be inspected together.
Only flagged evidence can go into the report. That connects reading to the final task without making every marked detail an answer. If an idea cannot be supported, return to the file. Check whether the source was actually flagged, whether the precise line matters and whether another record supplies the missing connection. The report should retain the source's limits instead of silently strengthening a possibility into a fact.
Test an alibi as several claims
An alibi can contain a place, a time, an activity and an explanation of how those details are known. They need not all have the same support. A receipt might connect an account to a transaction without placing its owner at the counter. A witness might remember the room correctly while attaching the wrong hour. Separate the parts before deciding whether an account holds or fails.
The linked guides on accounts and people, uncertainty in testimony and reading evidence develop those distinctions. Their examples are invented for teaching. They do not reveal which person to question or which record to flag in a playable case. The purpose is to help keep a comparison precise: name the claim, name the source and state exactly what the source can establish before asking what remains uncertain.
Colleagues and Consults
The Bureau is part of the atmosphere and the working structure. The case arrives through a fictional institution, with records that have passed through different offices and hands. Read those sources in their own context rather than treating every page as a single narrator. An administrative entry and an interview may describe the same event for different reasons. That difference can explain wording without proving that either author intended to deceive.
Each case includes three Consults with a colleague, never for sale. A Consult is available when the record feels tangled. It belongs alongside rereading and comparison, not outside them as a purchase requirement. Every case is solvable with the clues supplied. After taking a Consult, return to the relevant material and check the relationship it helps clarify so the explanation remains grounded in the file.
Write the account the evidence supports
The case report asks who, how, why and when. Submitting it is the point where a working theory becomes an explanation offered to the Bureau. Read the fields together before sending it. The proposed person needs the relevant access, the proposed method needs support, and the chosen moment must belong to the event the report asks about. A motive cannot supply all of those connections by itself.
Feedback gives the number of correct answers, never which ones. That preserves a reason to revisit the evidence rather than chase a highlighted field. A useful review starts with the least supported claim. Ask what would have to be true for it to fit, and whether the file actually establishes that condition. Keep a strong answer only because its support remains sound, not because the report needs it to be right.
Noir built from places and paper
Somatry's atmosphere comes through the county, the case artwork and the records on the desk. Coldmere, Ashport and Palewater provide three fictional jurisdictions within the base collection. A lit office, a wet harbor entrance or an empty roadside can establish a mood without supplying a report answer. The world archive expands those surroundings through original fiction that stays separate from the playable evidence.
Case 1 is free and complete, so the actual detective workflow can be tried before the base-game purchase. One purchase unlocks the remaining forty-nine cases, with no ads or subscription. Begin with the small website demo to inspect Read, Flag, Report, then follow the case and district links below for a limited introduction to the county. The other search pages explain cold-file structure, deduction design and offline availability in more detail.
