Palewater

Palewater is the fictional southern city beside Coldmere County's salt flats. Its five districts run from a dry lakebed to aging resorts and a single toll-bridge connection. It is the third city in Somatry's 50-case base collection.

A horizon that changes the scale

The Flats make nearby objects look far away and distant lights appear unexpectedly close. Beyond the pale ground are the boats and resort buildings of Marina Sol, places designed around a different promise of water. The county fiction holds those views together: a city can keep selling a waterfront identity while the surrounding landscape tells a slower, less convenient story.

The room behind reception

Cinder Row's motels and cash registers serve passing lives. Sconce Hill's gates and neighborhood watch logs serve residents trying to control who passes. The contrasts are practical as well as social. One district writes down a room number so that someone can leave; another records an arrival so that it will be remembered. Both produce paper long after a conversation has ended.

One way across

The Causeway is Palewater's toll bridge and its only way in or out. Roads elsewhere in the county can branch or disappear into the hills; here a journey must reckon with the crossing. Dr. Celia Marchetti signs Palewater's reports in the game. The archive's location stories stay outside those reports, describing the setting and the everyday routines surrounding it without identifying a culprit.
