A view from behind a curtain
The same stretch of pavement is watched from several windows at different angles. A hedge blocks one observer's view of the gate, while a parked car interrupts another's sight of the path. The neighborhood shares observations, but the pieces do not automatically join into a complete picture.
The watch notebook
A notebook at the community room contains careful entries beside hurried ones. Some residents record every delivery; others write only what seems unusual to them. The county fiction is interested in the difference between those habits. A blank space can mean that nothing was noticed, not that nothing happened.
The familiar visitor
People who arrive regularly are eventually described by function rather than by name: gardener, parcel driver, the person fixing the gate. The categories feel precise until a different person performs the same task. Sconce Hill's stories show how a community's effort to remember can also simplify the lives it observes.
