The path that belongs to the plan
A straight gravel path still leads toward the place where a garden entrance used to stand. The doorway has been altered, but the path continues to organize movement through the plots. People turn aside at its end without thinking. A visitor sees the old intention more clearly because they have not yet learned the habitual correction.
Labels carried with the plants
Plants move between beds while their labels are reused. An old name on the back of a tag can survive beneath a newer inscription. In the district's fiction, a gardener recognizes a former arrangement through these small leftovers, reconstructing a season from objects never intended to become a historical record.
The allocation of a useful corner
The sheltered plot beside the glasshouse is more valuable in practice than its size suggests. A drawing assigns equal areas, but sunlight and drainage make them unequal places. The gardens' stories give that difference a social life through negotiations over shared access, tools and the wall that keeps the worst wind off one row.
From the fictional county archive
Equal area does not include the shared path. The strip beside the glasshouse must remain accessible to all plot holders.
