Case 29: Four Hours

An opening brief from the fictional Coldmere County case files. Cold for 4 years, 10 months. This introduction contains no report, evidence inventory or closing scene.

Bureau opening brief

Rivaud, Armand. 74. Retired headmaster; apartment 5, the top floor of the Tramontane, the apartment block at the foot of the breakwater, Marina Sol. Found in his armchair at ten past eight on a Saturday morning in March, nearly five years ago, by the day porter. Dr. Marchetti: a head injury from a fall from height; death between 12:30 and 1:30 AM. The Palewater police ruled that he fell on his walk to the light at midnight, got himself home and died in his chair, and closed it as an accident. His phone went to property locked. The lab has opened it. That spring his sister in Coldmere had Dr. Bell review Dr. Marchetti's papers. The review reached the police after they had closed the file and was held for the next review. There was none. This year Palewater records sent us the box, with the papers held for that review, and asked his sister for his papers and four people where they were that Friday night. Both findings stand. Four names. -V
