Mendizabal, Hortensia. 64. Accounts clerk at the Causeway toll office, window 1, thirty-three years. Found in her armchair at home on Tollgate Row, behind the toll plaza, at ten to eleven on a Tuesday night in March, six years ago, by her niece. Dr. Marchetti: a capsule like the one left in the pillbox by her chair, which was not what her pharmacy gave her; she lost consciousness and did not wake. Window 6:00 to 9:00 PM. The Palewater police held that the capsule went into the pillbox at home, worked the house, charged nobody and filed it open. Her phone went to property locked, and so did her niece's. The lab has opened both. This year Palewater records asked the toll office about her last afternoon, her niece for her papers, the council for its minutes, a shop on the front at Marina Sol for its order book, and five people where they were that Tuesday.
