Coombe, Duncan. 63. Road foreman of engines, the Northline, Brannock Yards, Ashport, forty-one years on the railway. Found at 5:40 on a Wednesday morning, nearly four years ago, by a car inspector, on a storage track under the Brannock Yards footbridge. The Ashport coroner's office: a fall of about twenty feet, death within minutes. Window 10:00 PM Tuesday to 2:00 AM Wednesday. Rain all night, the lamps out over the middle of the bridge, and the handrail there reported loose a month before. Nobody saw him go over. The team took statements and alibis, charged nobody and filed it undetermined. His phone went to his daughter, locked; the team had his calls from the network. The lab has opened it. New in this file: the phone, the Northline's letters on him and his crews, and that month's returns from the pass office in Coldmere. The Northline's books stand. Four names. -V
