The street after a shift
The foundry gates release people into a street whose shops have learned the rhythm. A counter stays open for a late meal. A notice is posted where it will be seen before the bus arrives. The neighborhood's timetable follows work, but not everyone finishes at once, and a familiar face can belong to a different shift.
The room above the hall
A meeting room holds folding chairs, a kettle and cupboards that resist any consistent filing system. Old minutes share space with a roof-repair estimate and a list of borrowed equipment. The county fiction treats the union hall as a place of everyday administration as well as collective decisions. Someone must still find the spare key.
What a date on paper means
A notice can carry the date it was written, the date of a meeting and the date someone pinned it up. Those are different events. Ironrow's archive stories linger over such ordinary distinctions, showing how a working community remembers itself through paper that was created for immediate use and kept almost by accident.
From the fictional county archive
The meeting room has moved downstairs while the ceiling dries. Previous notices should be taken down, not written over.
