Bureau opening brief
Figg, Dolores. 71. Ran a beauty parlor on Cinder Row, Palewater, for thirty-two years; since it shut, by the week in room 6 of the Coquina, a motel down the Row. Found in her bed at ten past eleven on a Saturday morning, four years ago, by the motel's owner, when she did not come to pay her week. Dr. Celia Marchetti, Palewater's medical examiner: the tablets in her own bottle were not the ones on its label, and they stopped her heart in her sleep. Window 12:30 to 4:00 AM Saturday. It was 91 F at midnight. The Palewater police worked it as a homicide, charged nobody and filed it open. Her phone went to property locked. The lab has opened it. This year Palewater records asked the Coquina for its register, which the owner keeps, and the recorder's office for its papers on 40 Cinder Row, where the parlor was. Both stand. Three names. -V
