Bureau opening brief
Stannard, Josephine. 62. Co-owner, Stannard & Greer, law stationers, 88 Wick Street, Ashport, thirty-one years. Found at 6:15 on a Wednesday morning, six years ago, by the shop's driver, in the yard behind the shop, beside her own car. The Ashport coroner's office: a single blunt injury to the head, death within minutes. Window 10:30 PM the night before to 1:00 AM. Worked as an assault by someone unknown. Rain all night, no camera on the yard or the lane, nobody seen. Filed open. She was to sell her half of the business at noon that day. Her phone went to property and was read for calls. New in this file: the phone, read in full; her lawyers' file on the sale; and the Wick Street Clearing House's own sheets for the accounts we named. On Wick Street the fee is always paid. The clearing house writes down when. Four names. -V
