The store's own door needs more attention than some of the equipment inside. Its maintenance note is pinned beside the hook holding the key, exactly where it will be seen during the action it concerns. In the story, the room keeps advice at the point of use rather than in a distant manual.
An empty space in the rack
A pane has been taken for repair work but not yet crossed off the list. The stock record briefly describes what should be present rather than what is there. The discrepancy is resolved by a note carried down the steps, giving the room a small narrative of work, delay and careful correction.
