Varley, Signe. 47. Winter manager, Grayhaven Pier, fourteen winters. Found by the night watchman at 6:40 on a Sunday morning in December, seven years ago, at the lake end of the pier, in front of the pier's tractor. Dr. Bell: struck by a vehicle. Window 11:00 PM Saturday to 3:00 AM. There was frost on the boards that morning, and a line of prints in it that begins halfway along the pier and walks away. The original team read the prints as the watchman's. He left Coldmere that week, and nobody was charged. Her phone was locked. His was bagged from his locker as property. Both are open now. They are in this file, with his rounds book and the pier's papers. The deck sensor keeps its own time. Five names. -V
