Case 49: Station Four

An opening brief from the fictional Coldmere County case files. Cold for 3 years, 4 months. This introduction contains no report, evidence inventory or closing scene.

Bureau opening brief

Tatham, Miriam. 59. Marine engine fitter, her own works on Rime Quay, the Saltyard, twenty-two years. Found at ten to seven on a Friday morning in September, more than three years ago, at the blind end of Tackle Lane, off Rime Quay, by a crane operator on his way to the early shift. Dr. Bell: a single blunt injury to the head, death within minutes. Window 10:00 PM Thursday to 2:00 AM Friday. Fog. The police worked it as an assault by a person unknown, could not charge anyone and filed it open that November. Her phone went to property locked, and nobody asked again. The lab has opened it. This year the Bureau asked the owner of Bollard Storage for the papers in his office. The building's papers stand. Four names. -V
