Found ten to seven on a Wednesday in February, nearly eight years ago, on the bench by the sundial in the courthouse garden, the Marble Mile. By an appraiser cutting through to work. Dr. Bell: hypothermia, no injury. Window 10:00 PM Tuesday to 3:00 AM Wednesday. Fog. Police: slow heart, cold night, his nightly sit. Misadventure, closed that April. Phone to property, locked. Nobody asked again. Lab has opened it. Captain's memo of that week found this year among her own papers, not in the police file. This year the Bureau asked a sleep clinic, the appraisers' board and CurlewBank for their records. Statements taken on the Mile. Their records stand. Captain has recused herself.
