Bureau opening brief
Murtagh, Danuta. 66. Sleeping-car attendant on the Northline's sleeper south for twenty-six years, retired; a widow, Signal Street, Brannock Yards. Found at seven on a Saturday morning in December, five years ago, by the car's attendant, in berth 2 of car B of that sleeper as it stood at Coldmere. The Ashport coroner's office: a single sharp-force injury; death within minutes. Window midnight to 3:30 AM. It rained all night. The team spoke to the riders aboard at Coldmere, placed nobody at her door, and filed it open. Her phone went to property locked. The lab has opened it. This year Ashport records asked the Northline Berth Office for its copy of that night's berth plan and the letters it keeps with its plans, and asked a real estate agency in Coldmere for its copy of a letter to her. The berth office's papers stand. Three names. -V
