The label beneath the label
Packing crates are reused. A fresh address is pasted over a previous destination, leaving fragments of earlier lettering around the edges. A carrier knows to read the upper label, but a torn corner can expose an old city name and briefly redirect attention. The crate contains a history of travel unrelated to its current contents.
The parcel on the office chair
Fragile deliveries are sometimes placed inside the office until their recipients arrive. The only free surface may be a chair, which then becomes unavailable to the person doing the paperwork. The room rearranges itself around objects that are supposed to be passing through, giving temporary obligations a surprisingly physical presence.
A signature obtained later
A shop assistant takes a parcel to save its owner another trip. The formal acknowledgment comes back the following morning. Nothing has gone wrong, but the paper sequence differs from the sequence of handling. The location story makes that difference visible without treating an ordinary favor as evidence of deception.
From the fictional county archive
Parcel taken onward by arrangement. Recipient's signed acknowledgment will follow with the next collection, not with this load.
