The plan on the window ledge
Large drawings are spread partly across the desk and partly onto the deep window ledge. Reading them requires turning between surfaces, and a folded section can remain hidden beneath a stack of invoices. The office's physical limits shape how information is handled, giving some parts of an order more immediate visibility than others.
A canceled destination
Boards cut for a repair remain stacked after the customer changes the design. Their marks still name the old destination. The office must find a use that respects the dimensions already imposed on the material. The county story follows this effort to recover value from work that was correct when it was commissioned.
The second label
A new order is written beside the previous chalk mark rather than over it. Both are kept until the boards leave, preserving the reason for their unusual size. The yard's written record becomes more useful by admitting its earlier plan, allowing the next worker to understand why apparently standard material has been prepared differently.
From the fictional county archive
Reassigned from the canceled garden repair. Existing cuts retained; confirm lengths before including these boards in the new order.
