The sheets that do not align
Two plans use different reference points. Laid over one another, their shorelines appear to disagree more than they really do. A note explains how each was drawn, preserving the method alongside the result. The room asks readers to understand the document before interpreting the landscape it presents.
A family picture enters the file
A donated photograph shows a gathering with the reservoir behind it. The archive copies the full frame, including details usually cropped away when the picture is displayed at home. What was once background becomes useful geographical context. The original meaning of the photograph is not erased; another reading is added beside it.
The blank space left honest
A missing interval in the records remains marked as a gap. Staff do not connect the nearest surviving observations with a confident account of what happened between them. The archive's strength comes partly from refusing that convenient completion, giving Lowwater a written history that can acknowledge the limits of what has survived.
From the fictional county archive
No observation survives for the interval between these sheets. The dotted connection indicates a gap in the record, not a measured shoreline.
