The diagram behind the new one
A current plan is fixed over an older drawing with enough care to leave the old sheet intact. Its edges show where lines once ran differently. The wall contains two versions of the yard, but only one is meant to be read. A lifted corner can make them look briefly continuous.
The room above the tracks
From the cabin, movement is visible in fragments between structures. Windows frame different parts of the yard, requiring someone to turn away from one view to check another. In the fiction, the height offers perspective without granting complete knowledge. An office above a system still belongs to that system.
A note carried between shifts
A maintenance message remains beside the door because the next person must see it before settling at the desk. Its wording refers to 'the old board,' a description clear to everyone currently working there and increasingly unhelpful to later readers. The cabin's archive preserves a vocabulary whose meaning once depended on shared familiarity.
From the fictional county archive
The superseded drawing is to stay flat in the cupboard. Do not fold it along the repaired tear.
