Wear at the wrong height
The most worn edge lies well above the ground now visible below. Without the history of the water, the pattern seems oddly placed. An older photograph shows why people once stood there. The stones have kept a physical record, but the image is needed to explain the conditions that made it.
A convenient place to sit
Residents still use the upper steps as a resting place. A structure can acquire a modest new purpose without losing its old one entirely. Conversations happen where boats once arrived, and the direction people face has barely changed. The location story allows continuity to be partial rather than demanding either perfect preservation or complete abandonment.
The caption corrected
A copied photograph is labeled with the date it was printed rather than the date it was taken. When an older resident notices, the correction is added beneath the first line. The archive keeps both dates, distinguishing the moment represented from the later act of making another copy of it.
From the fictional county archive
Date above refers to the copy. The original image predates the exposed ground now visible below the landing.
