Resolution can be specific
A story may explain why a letter arrived late without settling whether its apology would have been accepted. That is not necessarily an incomplete mystery. The practical question and the emotional question require different kinds of evidence. A strong ending can close one while making the remaining uncertainty clearer and more meaningful.
Worked example: the trapped envelope
A letter is found beneath a postbox tray. The location explains non-delivery and removes a theory that the recipient deliberately ignored it. It cannot establish what the recipient would have said, whether another conversation happened or how the relationship might have changed. Supplying those answers would require invention beyond the surviving record, even within the fictional world.
Read the final claim carefully
Ask which question the ending actually answers and whether the evidence supports that answer. Then notice what the story chooses not to pretend it can recover. Somatry's county short fiction explores this space around written remains, while the game offers cases designed to be solved from their files. Enjoying an open personal ending on the website does not mean a game report should rest on an unsupported guess. The two forms use uncertainty differently, and recognizing that difference makes both easier to read.
