Begin with the last supported state
Before rereading the whole file, review a short summary of confirmed anchors, current theory and unresolved questions. Keep those categories separate. A break can make your own conclusion feel like something the game told you. Returning to the source of the theory's most important connection helps prevent that shift from going unnoticed.
Worked example: a suspicious receipt
Your last note says the receipt proves the suspect was nearby. On returning, check whether the receipt identifies the person, an account or merely a transaction. If identity was unresolved, restore that qualification before continuing. You have not lost progress by making the note less definite; you have recovered the actual state of the investigation.
Choose one next task
Pick a bounded question, such as reconciling two dates or tracing a borrowed object, rather than trying to solve everything immediately. Read the relevant records together and update the summary when the comparison changes your view. These are optional habits for your own notes while playing Somatry, not an additional game mechanic. A good restart leaves you with a clear next action and a theory you can distinguish from the evidence supporting it.
