Track Role Changes Across Dates

Prevent an old title or roster entry from assigning a fictional character the wrong responsibilities later in a case.

Titles belong to periods

A person can remain in an organization while changing duties, or leave a role while their name remains on older documents. Attach dates to titles where the file allows it. The manager in an early letter may not be the manager at the time of a later event. Without that distinction, you can give someone authority, access or obligations they no longer had.

Worked example: the crossed-out singer

A name removed from a performance list also appears on a duty roster for opening the room. The records may describe a change of role rather than a departure. A letter explaining the change would strengthen that reading. The visual force of a crossing-out should not outweigh the later document that still places the person within the organization.

Build a small role history

Use one line per supported period: role, date range, source and any unresolved boundary. Do not invent exact changeover dates from a gap between two records. In Somatry, compare a character's claimed duties with the role documented at the relevant time. A discrepancy may become significant, but first make sure you are comparing the same period rather than turning an ordinary promotion, reassignment or retirement into a contradiction.
